The I.E. Department has many international students applying to our program and we can help you with most of your concerns.

Application deadlines are:
| Master Students | PHd. Students |
| January 15th for Fall | December 15th for Fall |
| September 15th for Spring | September 15th for Spring |
If you want to be considered for financial assistance, the deadline for Fall application is January 15th and September 15th for Spring.
May I send copies of my academic transcripts or GRE scores?
No. Official documents are required by the Graduate College in order to process any application.
I have a Bachelor's degree and desire to apply for the Ph.D. program. Is this allowed?
Yes, your undergraduate junior/senior GPA must be 3.5 or better to be considered for the Ph.D. program.
Who issues the I-20 Visa Documents?
The Graduate College issues and controls all of the U.S. Visa documents. They require a financial guarantee of $35,900.00 (USD) per year of study before issuing an I-20. Though you may receive admission from the I.E. Department, without this guarantee you will not be issued an I-20. If you have any questions about your I-20 you should contact the Graduate College Admissions office at (1-480-965-6113) or the International Student Office.
What kind of scholarships are available?
The I.E. Department has two types of scholarships. The Graduate Tuition Fellowship (GTF), University Graduate Scholar (UGS) and the Fulton Fellowship. Every year (in April) we are given an allotment of these scholarships from the Graduate College. We receive very few UGS awards and make them available only to continuing Ph.D. students. If you are chosen to receive a scholarship, you will be notified by the IE Department sometime in late March. Remember that competition for these awards are always very intense and continuing students are in a stronger position to receive an award than a new student.
How do I apply for these scholarships?
There is no application necessary. The IE department reviews all eligible students and selects the top students for these scholarships.
How about Assistantships?
Please submit your resume for our files.
Do I have to have a TOEFL score?
Yes!! International Students are required to submit a TOEFL Score. Application cannot be reviewed until the TOEFL score has arrived.
Do I need a GRE (Graduate Record Exam) score?
Yes. You will need a general GRE score in order to be considered for admission. If you do not submit a score, your application cannot be processed. The GRE requirement is necessary for all students applying to either the Masters or the Ph.D. program.
How long are my TOEFL and GRE test scores valid for?
The TOEFL score is good for two years from the first day of classes of the semester you are enrolling at ASU. The GRE test scorse are valid for five years from the test date.
What is A.E.C.P.?
This is a program for international students who have attempted the TOEFL test and scored below 550/213. The Graduate College requires that students admitted to any regular program have a TOEFL score of at least 550. Those below 550 can apply to the A.E.C.P. program to study English at A.S.U. You will have to apply directly to the A.E.C.P. program and you will not be allowed to take other courses than the intensive English program prescribed by A.E.C.P. When you have completed the program (usually one year investment in time), then you can apply to a regular Graduate program.
