Prior to the start of the semester, you will receive and e-mail communication with information on advising, Orientation, test-out exam, and other related information.

How to Proceed:

  1. Go to the IE department office first. You will receive a new Graduate student package which will include instructions, dates for meetings at which you can initially register for your first semester's class, a schedule of classes, and other items. Please read our Graduate Handbook, which is essential information.
  2. Attend the advising session, and be sure to have finished the instructions in the new student package. There is actually a lot of reading necessary to understand how to move thorough your graduate program of study. If you have been assigned deficiency classes (it would be on your official acceptance letter from Graduate College) and woudl like to have them waived, bring the evidence to the advising meeting. In order to have a deficiency removed, you must have taken the equivalent class and achieved a grade of 'C' or higher (70% for international students) as undergraduate or "B" or (80%) better as postgraduate. Evidence of this would be a transcript and syllabus of the course showing the topics and textbook used for the course.
  3. During the week before classes start, in the Fall and Spring semesters, incoming graduate student orientation is held. This is a mandatory meeting. The presentation will cover a brief overview of the IE Department, curriculum requirements, and general policies and procedures.
  4. A week before classes start, in the Fall and Spring semesters, a classroom will be set aside to allow students whose deficiencies have not been waived to sit for a Deficiency Test-Out Exam. Deficiencies for MAT 242, IEE 380, IEE 385, IEE 376 may be removed by this test procedure. This is the only time available for incoming students to sit for the deficiency test-out. No other opportunity to test-out of assigned deficiencies is available.
