IE faculty are actively involved in leading-edge research from both methodological and applications perspectives. Most of the methodological research falls into three broad categories: industrial statistics, operations research, and information and systems Engineering. Application areas include security and information assurance, semiconductor manufacturing operations, production systems, logistics and supply chains, service systems (such as health care), new product development, and data mining. Research comprises a healthy mix of federally supported fundamental research, and industry-funded applied research. Indeed, many projects enjoy a mixture of both, and prove the relevance of our fundamental research by rapidly deploying it in industry and in our teaching. Modern labs
support each research area.
