Advisement

Steps for Academic Advisement

STEP 1. Initiate contact with your IE Academic Advisor and schedule an advising session. Academic Advisor: Susan Borgers. Phone: 480-965-6990. E-mail: susan.borgers@asu.edu.

STEP 2. Meet with your academic advisor and determine required courses.

STEP 3. During your advising session, you will secure advising clearance*

STEP 4. Register for classes through ASU Interactive.

STEP 5. Pay your tuition (see tuition payment deadline in the Schedule of Classes )

*All students are required to visit their academic advisor every semester for advising clearance. In fact, you will not be able to register for classes without advising clearance. Classes must be taken in a specific sequence due to course prerequisites. Your advisor will want to talk to you about your academic progress and your plans for course sequencing. Working in partnership with your academic advisor is important in getting the most out of your degree program, and will benefit you in terms of helping you attain your educational goals.

Faculty Advisors

Did you know that we have nationally and internationally renowned faculty members in IE? What is even more exciting is the fact that all IE students are assigned a faculty advisor. Faculty advisors are here to serve as mentors. Their role is different from your Academic Advisor who guides you with course selection and curriculum requirements. In general, faculty advising is ideal for students who are prepared to discuss:

  1. Career focus areas
  2. Internship plans and possibilities
  3. Graduate education and opportunities
  4. Post baccalaureate plans and aspirations
  5. Employment opportunities and/or desires
  6. Professional registration
  7. Nature of the field of Industrial Engineering and changes occurring
