Admission

The Industrial Engineering Department adheres to the admission guidelines that have been set for all students entering the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering. Students are admitted into Industrial Engineering under one of the following categories: First Time Freshmen, Transfer, or Returning.

The academic programs at the Ira A. Fulton School of Engineering are divided into two groups:

  1. lower-division courses (freshman and sophomore classes), and
  2. upper-division courses (junior and senior classes).

"Who" takes "What"?

The majority of incoming freshman students (First Time Freshmen) will begin their degree program by taking freshman level coursework, and will progress to sophomore, junior, and senior level classes.

Transfer and Returning students will take classes that are commensurate with their class level; which will be determined after a departmental evaluation of transfer and/or completed coursework. Students will need to visit the academic advisor for Industrial Engineering to initiate the evaluation process so that an assessment of completed coursework can be made. This step should occur upon admission (Transfer) or readmission (Returning) into the Industrial Engineering program.

Each student will need to work with the departmental academic advisor to evaluate and determine their first semester courses at ASU.

Critical Requirements

All incoming students will be required to complete a set of courses known as Critical Requirements which are specific to each degree program. Critical Requirements (also called Skill-Set courses) are to be taken at the beginning of the degree program until completed. This set of lower-division courses was designed to serve as a predictor of academic success in the Industrial Engineering degree program.

First Time Freshman students will be expected to complete the Critical Requirements by the end of their third semester at ASU (full-time enrollment). Students who are unable to successfully complete these courses should meet with their academic advisor to discuss their options.

Transfer and Returning students will need to work with their academic advisor to identify any remaining Critical Requirements that must be completed. Students who need to take Critical Requirement courses must do so as soon as possible, and will not be allowed to take upper-division coursework until all of the Critical Requirements are met. Students who are unable to successfully complete these courses should meet with their academic advisor to discuss their options.
